Michele Corrao was born and baptized as Michael Joannius Jacobius on July 18, 1682, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Isabella Fide and her husband Paolo Corrao. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Being the first male born, he was named after both of his grandfathers. Sometimes his surname is listed as Corrado.
On March 31st, April 1st and 2nd of 1720, church banns were ready for Michaele to marry Antonia Sabella. She was born on December 20, 1703, and baptized as Ant’na Alberta Petra the next day, also in the mother church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Francesca Liberto and her husband Ignazio Sabella. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record middle right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Thirty-seven year-old Michele and sixteen year-old Antonina were married in the mother church on April 8, 1720, almost a week after the last banns were read, probably in a double wedding with his brother and her sister. (Mouse over and click on the marriage record upper left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.)
Nine Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Michaele and Antonia Corrao as follows — Paolo was born on the evening of August 1, 1721, baptized the next day as Paulius Calogerius Balthiassar, and on June 21, 1749, married Maria Trapani, the daughter of ancestors Leonora Bonsignore and Calogero Trapani; Calogera Lauria was born and baptized by the midwife because of imminent danger of death on September 25, 1723, and died on September 2, 1724, three weeks before her first birthday; ancestor Pasquale; Vincenzo was born on the morning of October 17, 1728, baptized as Vincenzio Ignazius later that day, and married Maria Montalblano in 1757; Laurenza Vincenzia was born on August 9, 1731, and baptized the next day; Giuseppe was born on November 3, 1732, baptized as Joseph the next day and on June 26 , 1752, married Lucia Maniscalco, the granddaughter of Lorenzo and Luciana Maniscalco and Carlo and Francesca Verde; Ignazio was born and baptized as Ignazius Francisius on the evening of October 3, 1735, and married Jacoba Azara in 1760; Mariano was born on August 3, 1739, and baptized as Marianius Accursius Dominicus that same day, but probably died young; and lastly Francisca Maria, who was born on the evening of June 21, 1743, baptized the next day, and in 1762, married Francesco Imbornone the son of ancestors Saverio and Margarita Imbornone.
There is an April 9, 1747, Sciacca Rivelo (tax record) for 56 year old Michele Carrado, but he was actually 64 years old at the time. (Mouse over and click on their Rivelo record lower left to enlarge in a new window/tab.) His parents are listed as the deceased Paulo and Isabella Corrado, which is correct. Michele’s wife is listed as Antonia, with no age listed. Then their 7 surviving children as follows — 18 year old Paulo was actually 25; 4 year old Francisca was actually 2 months short of her 4th birthday; 16 year-old Laurenza was four months short of her 16th birthday; 8 year-old Ignazio was actually 11 ½ years old; 13 year-old Vincenzo was actually 18 ½ years old; 12 year-old Giuseppe was actually 14 ½ years old; and 14 year-old Pasquale was actually 22 years old. It is interesting that the female ages are very close to correct, but the male ages are much younger. It seems there must have been a good reason to list the sons younger than they are. It is not known why so much is crossed out, but they did own some non-movable possession, possibly a house and land.
It is documented that Michele and Antonia were both alive on October 9, 1757, when their son Vincenzo was married. It is also documented that Michele was deceased and Antonia was alive when their son Ignazio was married on May 4, 1760. Michele died at home on January 14, 1758, and was buried the next day in the cemetery of the convent church of St. Fran’ci outside the city. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record lower right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) His mother church burial record lists him as 80 years old, but he was actually only 75 when he died. It is not known when Antonia died, as a Sciacca burial record could not be found for her, but she was listed as alive on November 3, 1762, the date her daughter Francisca was married. Until more records can be found, this is all that is known about them.

Paolo Corrao was born on the morning of May 3, 1647, and baptized as Joseph Laurenzius Paulus that same day in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Giacoma Falco and her husband Michele Corrao. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Paolo was just over two years old when his father died. Their surname has also been listed as Currao on documents.
On April 6th, 7th and 8th of 1670, church banns were read for Paulum to marry Isabella Fide. She was born and baptized as Isabella Anna Catherina on July 14, 1651, also in the Sciacca mother church parish, the daughter of Giuseppa Perricone and her husband Giovanni Battista Fide. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record middle right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) A week after the last banns were read, the almost 23 year-old Paolo and 18 year-old Isabella were married at the Sciacca mother church on April 14, 1670. (Mouse over and click on the marriage record upper left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.)
Eight Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Paulo and Isabella Corrao as follows — Rosalia, named after both of her grandmothers, was born and baptized as Rosalea Jacobba on December 29, 1670, bur died at 18 months old and was buried on June 29, 1672; another Rosalia was born on January 2, 1675, and baptized as Rosalea Calogera Josepha two days later; Santa Accursia was born and baptized on November 1, 1676; Anna Crescenzia Birgitta was born on February 5, 1681, and baptized the next day; ancestor Michele was named after his paternal grandfather; Gaspare, given a middle name after his maternal grandfather, was born on June 28, 1685, baptized two days later as Gaspar Joachim Jo: Battista, and on April 8, 1720, in a double wedding with their ancestor siblings, married Caterina Sabella, the daughter of Francesca and Ignazio Sabella, listed below; Petra Leonarda Anna was born and baptized on the evening of June 28, 1689, and in 1714, married Calogero Licata, the son of ancestors Augostino and Maria Licata; and Paolo and Isabella's last child, Anna Maria Palma was born on the evening of March 29, 1692, and baptized the next day.
It is documented that both Paolo and Isabella were both alive on February 6, 1714, when their daughter Pietra was married. It is also documented on both Gaspare and ancestor Michele’s 1720 marriage records that Paolo was deceased and Isabella was still alive. So the burial record found that is dated just a week after his daughter Pietra’s marriage is probably for ancestor Paulo, even though this is the first time this alias is associated with him. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record lower right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) On February 13, 1714, Paulus Corrao alias Cascione died at home about 61 years old and was buried in the church convent of St. Dominici. Ancestor Paolo was actually 66 years old on this date. Isabella did not remarry and almost 21 years later, she died in her home and was buried on January 22, 1735, in the mother church cemetery. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church burial record middle left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Her mother church burial record lists her as Isabella wife of the deceased Pauli Corrao about 80, but she was actually 83 when she died. At this time, this is all that is known about them.

Ignazio Sabella was probably born and baptized in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Caterina Spanò and her husband Michele Sabella. There is no baptism record for Ignazio as a given name, but his parents had two sons with the middle name of Ignazio born a year and a half apart in 1669-1670 (see his parents bio for details). Either one could be the ancestor, or he may have been born and baptized in another town.
On June 12th, 19th and 24th of 1695, church banns were read for Ignazio to marry Francesca Liberto. She was the daughter of Angela Caradonna and her husband Leonardo Liberto, but a Sciacca baptism record could not be found for her, but she was probably born about 1673 in Sciacca. More than two weeks after the last banns were read, Ignazio and Francesca were married on July 10, 1695, in the Sciacca St. Michele church. (Mouse over and click on their marriage record upper left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.)
Four St. Michele baptism records and one mother church baptism record have been found for the children of Ignazio and Fran’ca Sabella as follows — Catharina Angela Paula, named after both of her grandmothers, was born on April 25, 1696, baptized the next day, and on April 8, 1720, married Gaspare Corrao, the son of ancestors Paolo and Isabella Corrao (listed above), probably in a double wedding with their ancestor siblings; Angela Anna Calogera was born on the evening of March 29, 1698, and baptized the next day; Anna Blasia was born and baptized on February 3, 1700; Antonina Joanna was born on June 20, 1701, and baptized the next day; and lastly ancestor Antonia, the only one baptized in the mother church parish.
Almost six years after her last child was born, Francisca died at home and was buried in the convent of St. Maria de Monte Carmelo cemetery on November 13, 1709. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church burial record upper right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Her mother church burial record lists her as, Fran’ca wife of Master Ignazio Sabella about 38, which puts her birth to about 1671, but burial record ages are usually just an estimate. Ignazio was left with 5 young daughters, including ancestor Antonia who was a less than 2 months under 6 years old, so he decided to remarry.
Less than two months later, on January 1st, 5th and 6th of 1710, church banns were read for Ignazio to marry the single Calogera Catania alias La Nigra. Ignazio and Calogera were married at the Sciacca mother church on January 8, 1710, two days after the last banns were read. (Mouse over and click on their marriage record right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.)They had at least 12 more children together all born and baptized in the Sciacca mother church, seven daughters and five sons. Their first child, a daughter, was named Francisca Leonarda, probably in honor of his deceased first wife. It is assumed that Calogera raised Ignazio's five daughters from his first marriage.
Six years after their last child was born, Ignazio died at home and was buried in the mother church cemetery on November 14, 1744. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record lower right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record lists him as Ignazius Sabella 80 years old, but he probably was about 75 when he died. His second wife Calogera lived only a few more years. She died and was buried in the St. Dominici Convent cemetery on April 30, 1747.
For now, this is all that is known about them. |

Michele Corrao’s ancestry is unknown, but he married and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. He may be the son of Onofria Tripoli and her husband Filippo Corrao, who were having children about the time he would have been born, but there is no documents to support this. On the other hand, he could have been born in another town and moved to Sciacca, so his ancestry will remain a mystery.
On May 8, 1644, Sciacca notary Carlo Musca issued a notarial marriage contract between Michele and Giacoma Falco, but she is listed as Giovanna on the transcription. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry upper right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) On May 29th, June 5th and 12th of 1644, church banns were read for Michaelum and Jacobam deFalco to marry. She was born on the evening of January 24, 1623, and baptized as Jacoba Paula the next day in the Sciacca St. Vito parish, the daughter of Maria Soldano and her husband Antonino Falco. (Mouse over and click on her baptism record middle right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) A week after the last banns were read, Michele, who was about 40 years old, and 21 year-old Giacoma were married on June 19, 1644, in the St. Vito church. His parents are not listed on this marriage record. (Mouse over and click on the marriage record upper left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.)
Only three Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of master Michaele and Jacoba Corrao as follows — Vincenzo was born and baptized as Vincentius Antoninius on June 13, 1645, but died less than 2 months later and was buried on August 6th; Antonino was born on April 5, 1646, and baptized as Joseph Antonino Vincenzo the next day, but died and was buried 5 days later on the 10th; and ancestor Paolo, who was their only surviving child.
Almost 2 ½ years after his last son was born, Michele wrote his will and it was filed by Sciacca notary Onofrio Sole on September 22, 1649. Michele died and was buried in the mother church cemetery just six days later on September 28th. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record lower right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record lists him as, Master Michael Corrao, about 50, which puts his birth to about 1599. It is not known when Giacoma remarried or if she died, as a burial record for her has not been found yet. Until more records can be found, this is all that is known about them.

Michele Sabella was born and baptized as Michael Isadori Petrius on September 29, 1634, in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Caterina Catena and her husband Sebastiano Sabella. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) He is also the younger brother of ancestor Calogero Sabella.
On January 6, 1655, a first set of church banns were read for Micheli to marry Francesca Giliberto. Six days later Sciacca notary Raffaele Bentivegna filed a marriage contract for Michele and Francesca. Three months later, on April 4th, 11th and 18th, another set of church banns were read. In these banns, their parents are listed clearly. Two weeks later, on May 2nd, at the Sciacca St. Michele church, twenty year-old Michele and Francesca were married. (Mouse over and click on their marriage record upper left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Three Sciacca St. Michele baptism records were found for their children — Sebastiano, named after his paternal grandfather, was born on February 17, 1656, was baptized as Sebastianius Gaetanius Calogerius the next day, and married Vita Mineo on July 28, 1675; Catherina Nimfa, named after her paternal grandmother, was born on the morning of September 22, 1659, and baptized that same day; and Giacomo, who was born and baptized as Jacobus Joannes Baptison on July 25, 1661. Three years later, Francesca died and was buried on August 3, 1664. Left with three young children, Michele decided to marry again.
On January 18, 1665, the same Sciacca notary as above, Raffaele Bentivegna filed a marriage contract for Michele to marry Caterina Spanò. She was born on the evening of January 13, 1638, and baptized the next day, , also in the St. Michele parish, the daughter of Francesca Santangelo and her husband Gaspare Spanò. (Mouse over and click on her baptism record middle right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) She is also the younger sister of ancestor Grazia. A week after their contract was filed church banns were read on January 25th, February 1st and 2nd for them to marry. Two days later, 30 year-old Michele, who is listed as the widow of Francisca, and 27 year old Caterina were married at the Sciacca St. Michele church on February 4, 1665. (Mouse over and click on their marriage record middle left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.)
Only three St. Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Michele and Catharina Sabella as follows — Crispino was born on the morning of July 23, 1665, baptized as Chrispinus Antoninus Vitus that same day, and married Rosa Termini in 1689; Paulo was born on the evening of January 9, 1669, and baptized as Paulus Ignatius Vitus the next day; and Gaspare, who was born and baptized as Gaspar Ignatius on July 2, 1670. A baptism record for a son with the given name of Ignazio has not been found, but ancestor Ignazio may be either Paolo or Gaspare. A marriage or burial record could not be found for either of them, so it is impossible to know which one was ancestor Ignazio.
It is documented that Michele was deceased, but Caterina was alive on September 4, 1689, when their son Crispino was married. Michele died and was buried in the church of St. Leonardi cemetery on July 21, 1671. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) His St. Michele burial record lists him as, Master Michael Sabella about 40, but he was only 36 when he died. Caterina left with three young children, did not marry right away, but eventually she did remarry.
Almost 2 years later, on June 18th, 22nd and 25th, of 1673, church banns were read for Caterina to marry Giuseppe Felix Guardino the son of Antonino and Giovanna Guardino and brother to ancestors Domenico and Didaci. Twenty-seven year-old Joseph and thirty-five year-old Caterina, relict of deceased master Michaelis Sabella, were married on June 26, 1673, in the Sciacca St. Michele church. (Mouse over and click on their Latin marriage record lower left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) They had two daughters together — Giovanna, named after her paternal grandmother was born and baptized as Joanna Sancta Laurenta on the evening of August 9, 1674; and Calogera, given a middle name after her maternal grandmother, was born and baptized as Calogera Francisca on January 14, 1677. It is not known when Caterina died, as a burial record could be found for her. What is documented is that she was alive on July 10, 1695, when ancestor Ignazio was first married. Until her burial record can be found, this is all that is known about them. |

Leonardo Liberto was born and baptized as Leonardo Pasquale on May 23, 1638, in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Maria Rapullo and her husband Antonino Liberto. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.)
On January 6th, 9th and 26th of 1661, church banns were read for Leonardo to marry Angela Caradonna. She was born on the evening of March 28, 1639, and baptized as Angela Calogera the next day, in the St. Vito parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Antonina Calì and her husband Pietro Caradonna. (Mouse over and click on her baptism record middle right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Twenty-two year old Leonardo and twenty-one year-old Angela were married at the St. Vito church on January 30, 1661, a few days after the last banns were read. (Mouse over and click on their Latin marriage record upper left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.)
Eight Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of Leonardo and Angela Liberto. The first child was baptized in the St. Vito parish, the next four in the St. Michele parish and the last three in the St. Vito parish as follows — Maria Paula, named after her paternal grandmother, was born on the morning of January 24, 1662, and baptized that same day; Vincenza Antonia, given a middle name after her maternal grandmother, was born on the morning of September 26, 1663, and baptized that same day; Antonino, named after his paternal grandfather, was born on the evening of September 30, 1665, and was baptized as Antonius Honophius Angelus the next day; Anna Maria was born on the evening of October 4, 1667, and was baptized the next day; Anna Calogera was born and baptized on December 29, 1669; Pietro, named after his maternal grandfather, was born and baptized as Petrus Francisus on December 10, 1671; Giuseppe was born on October 15, 1674, and baptized as Joseph Francisus the next day, but died and was buried 6 days later on October 21st; and another Giuseppe was born and baptized as Joseph Albertus on the evening of January 1, 1677, and in 1700 married Rosa Scoma. A Sciacca baptism record for ancestor Francisca has not been found.
It is documented that Leonardo was deceased and Angela was still alive on July 10, 1695, when their daughter ancestor Francesca was married. Unfortunately, a Sciacca burial record for him has not been found, but it should be noted that these records are missing after 1674 up to September of 1690. He probably died sometime after their last child was born in 1677 and before September of 1690. It is also documented that Angela was deceased when her son Giuseppe was married on July 18, 1700. Angela died at home and was buried in the cemetery of the church convent of St. Maria de Monte Carmelo on February 9, 1700. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record lower right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Her mother church burial record lists her as, Angela wife of the deceased Leonardo di Liberto about 60, which was her correct age. For now, this is all that is known about them.

Antonino Falco was baptized on May 9, 1579, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Paolo Falco and his second wife Antonella, whose surname is unknown. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.)
On February 23, 1603, Sciacca notary Sigismundo Mandracchia filed a notarial marriage contract for Antonino to marry Maria Soldano. She was the daughter of Mariano Soldano and his wife Margarita, whose surname is unknown. A Sciacca baptism record for Maria could not be found. More than a month later, church marriage banns were read for them on March 31st, April 1st and 2nd. Five days later on April 7, 1603, twenty-three year-old Antonino and Maria were married in the Sciacca St. Vito church. (Mouse over and click on the marriage record upper left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.)
Ten St. Vito baptism records plus one marriage record have been found for the children of Antonino and Maria de Falco as follows — Petro Paulo, given a middle name after his paternal grandfather, was baptized on August 25, 1603; Calogero Thomas was baptized on December 21, 1605, but died at 2 years old and was buried on November 30, 1608; Andrea was baptized on November 30, 1607, and married Vincenza Carnimolla on June 3, 1635; Anna Margarita was baptized on April 7, 1610, and married Vincenzo Liotta on November 26, 1636; Paolo Francesco, named after his paternal grandfather, was baptized on April 22, 1614; ancestor Giacomo; Pietro was born on the morning of January 9, 1633, and baptized as Petrus Calogerus that same day; Vita Caterina was born on the morning of August 5, 1634, and baptized later that day; Vito was on the morning of July 9, 1635, and baptized as Vitus that same day; and lastly, Pietro was born on the evening of July 28, 1642, and baptized as Petrus Dominicus Joseph the next day. The one marriage record is for Antonino, son of deceased Antonino and living Maria di Falco, who married Angela Giletto in 1646, but a baptism record for him could not be found.
It is documented that both Antonino and Maria were alive on June 19, 1644, when their daughter ancestor Giacoma was married. It is also documented that Antonino was deceased, but Maria was alive on May 12, 1646, when their son Antonino was married. Antonino Sr. died and was buried in the St. Francesco de Paola Church cemetery on July 3, 1645. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record lists him as Antonius Falco about 60, but he was actually 66 when he died. Four years later, Maria died and was buried in the church of St. Maria di Monte Carmelo cemetery on November 8, 1649. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church burial record lower right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Her brief St. Vito burial record lists her as, Maria wife of deceased Antonini di Falco about 69 years old, which puts her birth to about 1580, which is plausible. Until a baptism record can be found for Maria, this is all that is known about them.

Pietro Caradonna was born about 1618, most likely in the St Vito parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Angela Leone and her husband Vincenzo Caradonna. A Sciacca baptism record could not be found for him, but most of the St. Vito baptism records have been lost after March of 1617 up to January of 1619.
On April 3rd, 5th and 6th of 1638, church banns were read for Pietro to marry Antonina Calì. She was born and baptized on January 17, 1622, in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Angela Galluzzo and her husband Vincenzo Calì. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Pietro, who was about 20 years old and 16 year-old Antonina were married in the Sciacca St. Michele church on April 12, 1638. (Mouse over and click on their marriage record left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.)
Eight St. Vito baptism records have been found for the children of Petro and Antonina Caradonna as follows — ancestor Angela was named after both of her grandmothers; Maria Caterina was born and baptized on October 22, 1641; Anna Maria was born on the evening of November 3, 1643, baptized the next day, but 8 months later died and was buried on July 28, 1644; another Anna Maria was born on the evening of May 27, 1645, baptized the next day and married three times in Sciacca; Caterina Francisca was born and baptized on the evening of January 3, 1652, but died before her 3rd birthday and was buried on October 5, 1654; Filippo was born on July 27, 1655, and baptized as Philippus Albertius Blasius the next day; Giuseppe was born on November 13, 1658, and was baptized as Joseph Vincenius the next day; and another Caterina Francisca was born and baptized on February 21, 1662.
In Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo, there is an Emphyteutic concession of 3 lands in the said district to Pietro Caradonna, which was filed by Sciacca notary Raffaele Bentivegna on January 1, 1651. This could be for ancestor Pietro.
It is not known when Pietro and Antonina died, but it is documented tat they both were alive when their daughter Anna Maria married for the first time on February 6, 1667. Until their burial records can be found, this is all that is known about them. |

Paolo Falco and his wife Antonella’s ancestries are unknown, but they lived and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. Because his name is somewhat common, there are several records for it. There is a February 17, 1566, notarial marriage contract for Paolo Falco and Constantina Stagnataro, and four mother church baptism records for their children up to October 2, 1575. This may be ancestor Paolo and his first wife who could have died, but Sciacca church marriage and burial records don’t go back this far, so there is no way to confirm it.
Sometime before early 1576, Paolo married a woman named Antonella, but a church marriage record or contract couldn’t be found for them. What has been found are three Sciacca mother church baptism records for the children of Paulo and Antonella di Falco as follows — Simone was baptized as Simuni on October 28, 1576; ancestor Antonino; and Narda, which may be short for Leonarda, on July 8, 1582.
It is documented that both Paolo and Antonella were alive on April 7, 1603, when their son ancestor Antonino was married. There is a brief St. Vito burial record that could be for ancestor Paolo. (Mouse over and click on his possible Latin burial record left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) He is listed as Paulo di Falco who died and was buried on March 26, 1608, in the Sciacca Carmini cemetery, which may be the Carmelite convent cemetery. There is no other information on this record, so it’s impossible to know if this is for ancestor Paolo. It is not known when Antonella died, as a burial record for her could not be found. She may have died after him and remarried or she may have died before her husband, but Sciacca burial records don’t begin until September of 1606. To confuse matters more, there is a Sciacca St. Vito church marriage record dated April 28, 1604, for a Paulo di Falco and Margarita di Laura, but there is no mention that he was a widower. Unfortunately, much about Paolo and Antonella is uncertain and could be just a coincidence, so for now, their lives will remain a mystery. |

Mariano Soldano and his wife Margarita’s ancestries are unknown, but they lived and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. A Sciacca church marriage record or contract can not be found for them. What has been found are four Sciacca mother church baptism records for the children of Mariano and Margarita Soldano and four Sciacca marriage records, but only three list both the mother and father’s names.
The four baptism records are as follows — Narduzza Vincenza was baptized on February 12, 1584; Gasparo Agustino was baptized on August 28, 1585, and may be the Gaspare who married Vita Ognibeni on September 20, 1611; Mensione Cosmo was baptized on September 28, 1587; and Giulia, who was baptized on November 13, 1589. The four marriage records found are as follows — Rica daughter of Mariano and Marg’ta Soldano married Giuseppe Riggio at the Sciacca mother church on April 28, 1590, which puts her birth to about 1575; ancestor Maria was probably born next about 1580; Ant’no son of Mariano Soldano married on October 28, 1584, at the Sciacca mother church, Francesca Amato, the daughter of ancestors Vincenzo and Angela Amato, which puts his birth to about 1581; and Vita daughter of deceased Mariano & Marg’ta Soldano, who on November 5, 1601, at the St. Vito church, married Pietro Falco, who could be the son of ancestor Paolo Falco and his possible first wife Constantina Stagnataro (see above). It is possible that Mariano and Margarita were married and had children in another town prior to moving to Sciacca, but this is just speculation.
It is not known when Mariano and Margarita died, but it is documented that they both were alive in 1590, when their daughter Ricca was married, and deceased when their daughter Vita was married in late 1601. Unfortunately, Sciacca burial records are not available for research for this time span, so this is all that is known about them. |

Vincenzo Caradonna and his wife Angela Leone’s ancestries are unknown, but they lived and raised a family in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. A Sciacca church marriage record could not be found for them. What has been found is an undated notarial marriage contract entry in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry upper right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) It was found in a bundle of contracts dated 1589-90 filed by Sciacca notary Martino Russo. This doesn’t mean this was when they married, as in the past other bundles contained contracts for dates other than what the bundle was dated. Unfortunately, a Sciacca church marriage record could not be found for them.
Six Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of Vincenzo and Angela Caradonna. Five were found in the St. Vito parish records and one in the mother church parish records. The records found are as follows — Maria Vincenza was baptized on August 16, 1594, and married Francesco Bivona in 1610; Nicolò was baptized as Nicolau Hirecinto on May 26, 1597, and married Beatrici Maniscalco in 1623; Caterina Leonarda was baptized on October 17, 1600; Filppo was baptized as Pho Calogero on September 10, 1608; Giovanni was baptized as Jo: Batta on October 1, 1611, the only one in the mother church parish; and Leonarda, who was baptized as Calogera Leonarda on January 2, 1615, and as Leonarda married Pietro Galloa on January 9, 1633. A baptism record for ancestor Pietro has not been found, but most of the St. Vito baptism records have been lost after March of 1617 up to January of 1619.
It is documented that Vincenzo was alive on January 17, 1610, the date his daughter Maria was married, and deceased by the time his son Nicolò was married on February 19, 1623. Vincenzo died and was buried in the St. Vito cemetery on March 28, 1618. His very brief St. Vito burial record just lists his name and where he was buried. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) A month and a half later, on May 12, 1618, Sciacca notary Calogero Maniscalco filed an inventory of his property. It is not known if his wife Angela remarried or when she died, so for now, this is all that is known about them.

Vincenzo Calì was baptized as Vinc’o Rocco on January 21, 1578, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Nicolo Calì and his wife Leonora, whose surname is unknown. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.)
On September 8th, 14th and 21st of 1608, church banns were read for Vincenzo to marry Angela Galluzzo. She was baptized on October 10, 1588, in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Leonarda Cavallino and her husband Antonino Galluzzo. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record middle right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Thirty year-old Vincenzo and Angela, who was just 2 weeks short of 20 years old, were married in the Sciacca St. Michele church on the last day the marriage banns were read, September 21, 1608. (Mouse over and click on the Latin marriage record upper left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.)
Seven St. Michele baptisms records have been found for the daughters of Vin’co and Angila Cali as follows — Leonora, named after her paternal grandmother, was baptized on November 20, 1609, and married Pietro Randazzo in 1627; Leonarda, named after her maternal grandmother was baptized on May 11, 1613; Grazia was baptized on April 16, 1616; Philippa was baptized on May 12, 1619, but died at home 5 months later and was buried on October 30th; another Filippa was baptized as Pha on December 8, 1620, but a month later she died at home in the middle of the night and was buried on January 9, 1621; ancestor Antonina was given the female version of her maternal grandfather’s name; and another Filippa was born on July 4, 1625, and baptized as Pha the next day.
There are several mentions of his name in both volumes of Pellegrino Mortillaro’s books, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico, dealing with land sales. There was a much older Vincenzo Cali who was married to Consula, living and having children in Sciacca at this same time, so it is uncertain if these land deals are for this ancestor. This other Vincenzo died seven months after ancestor Vincenzo died, but because his age was listed as 75 years old, it is obvious this burial wasn’t for ancestor Vincenzo.
It is documented that ancestor Vincenzo was deceased on October 11, 1627, the date his daughter Leonora was married. Vincenzo wrote his will and it was recorded by Sciacca notary Giuseppe Cattano on February 17, 1627. He died at home on the morning of February 20, 1627, and was buried later that day in the St. Margarita church cemetery, where his two young daughters were also buried. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) His St. Michele burial record simply lists his name, when and where he died, without giving his age. Almost three weeks later, an inventory of his property was taken on March 11th, and it was recorded by the same notary who did his will. (Mouse over and click on his inventory entry lower right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) It is not known when Angela died, but she was listed as being alive on April 12, 1638, the date her daughter ancestor Antonina was married. There is a Testamento (will) entry for an Angela Calì dated October 21, 1658, in Mortillaro’s book mentioned above, but a burial record for her could not be found in the available church records. Until more documents can be found, this is all that is known about them.

Nicolò Calì and his wife Leonora’s ancestries are unknown, but the lived and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. A Sciacca marriage contract could not be found for them, and available Sciacca church marriage records don’t go back this far. Without either of these records, her surname is unknown.
Nicolò may be the Nicolò Calì who entered into a notarial marriage contract with Benvenuta Santangelo, that was filed by Sciacca notary Pietro Falco on May 6, 1554. There is only one baptism record that could be for this couple. Although the mother’s name is not listed on the baptism record, the daughter of master Nicola di Cali, named Antonina Benvenuta, was baptized on March 5, 1555, in the mother church parish of Sciacca. Because no other children were baptized with a father named Nicolò, or any other variation of his name, for the next eight years, it is assumed Benvenuta died and Nicolò remarried.
Some time before 1563, Nicolò married Leonora, possibly in another town. Seven Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of master Nicolo di Cali, but only the last three list the mother’s name as Nora or Norella. The baptism records are as follows — Leonarda was baptized as Narda Brigida on March 28, 1563; Antonino on March 10, 1564; Beneditto on January 14, 1567; Angelica Benvenuta was baptized on May 8, 1570, but may have died young; another Angelica was baptized on May 8, 1573, the first to have a mother’s name listed; ancestor Vincenzo; and Michele Calogero, who was baptized on February 10, 1581.
It is documented that Nicolò and Lenora were deceased when their son ancestor Vincenzo was married on September 21, 1608. Nicolò died and was buried in the St. Dominici convent cemetery on May 6, 1607. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) His St. Vito burial record simply lists just his name and where he was buried. A few days short of seven months later, on December 2, 1607, Leonora died and was buried in the St. Margarita church cemetery. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Her St. Michele burial record was as short as her husband’s, no age listed. For now, this is all that is known about them.

Antonino Galluzzo's ancestry is unknown, but he married and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy.
On January 7, 1584, Antonino married Leonarda Cavallino at the Sciacca mother church. (Mouse over and click on their marriage record left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) She was the daughter of Antonino Cavallino and his unnamed wife, who was probably Francisca Teuma. Their marriage record just lists her father’s name and does not list Antonino’s parents. A Sciacca baptism record for her has not been found, but not all the church records go back that far.
Eight Sciacca St. Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Antonino and Narda Galluzzo, but the first record found is more that four years after they married. It should be noted that St. Michele baptism records for the letter G, begin in December of 1586, so they probably had a few other children prior to this date. The eight records found are as follows — ancestor Angela; Francisca Caterina, probably named after her maternal grandmother, was baptized on June 2, 1592, and may have died young; Francisco was baptized as Franc’o Joseppi on April 19, 1594; Blasi, which in Italian is Biaggio, was baptized on July 26, 1598; Pietro was baptized as Petro Joseppi on April 19, 1600; another Francisca was baptized on October 18, 1604, and in 1623 married Leonardo Ognibene, the son of ancestors Augustino and Costanza Ognibene; another Caterina was baptized on September 11, 1608; and Maria, who was baptized on August 30, 1614.
It is not known when Antonino and Leonarda died, but it is documented he was alive on November 19, 1623, the date his daughter Francisca was married. A burial record for either of them has not been found in the Sciacca St. Michele records. Until more records can be found, this is all that is known about them. |

Antonino Cavallino and his wife Francisca Teuma are believed to be the parents of ancestor Leonarda. Their ancestries are unknown, but they lived and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. The reason for the uncertainty is that only her father’s name is listed on ancestor Leonarda’s marriage record, but there is circumstantial evidence that they are her parents, as she did name her second and sixth daughters Francisca.
On February 2, 1563, Sciacca notary Geronimo d’Agostino filed a marriage contract between Antonino Camellino and Francesca Teuma, which is listed in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo. This date is too early for church records, but being that the surname Camellino is not found in the Sciacca records, it is most likely this is a transcription error.
Four Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Ant’no Cavallino, and only the last two list a mother’s name of Fran’ca as follows — Caterina Margarita was baptized on February 12, 1568; Margaritella was baptized on February 10, 1569, and may have died young; Blasilla, the first to have her mother’s given name listed, was baptized on May 16, 1572; and lastly another Margarita, who was baptized on May 9 , 1574. A baptism record for ancestor Leonarda could not be found, but she was probably born about 1566 in another town or Sciacca parish that records are not available for. This is based on the fact that five years passed between their marriage date and when their first child's baptism is recorded.
Antonino wrote his will and it was filed by Sciacca notary Giovanna Vella on August 16, 1575. An inventory of his property was filed by the same notary on October 11, 1575. (Mouse over and click on his inventory entry right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Unfortunately, burial records don’t begin until late 1606, so he died sometime between those two dates, leaving his wife with several young children.
On March 1, 1576, Francisca married Calogero Sanfilippo in the Sciacca mother church.(Mouse over and click on the marriage record left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Their marriage record is very brief, but it does list her as Fran’ca widow of the deceased Ant’no Cavallino. This supports the above mentioned Camellino marriage contract as being a spelling or transcription error. Only one Sciacca mother church baptism record has been found for the children of Calogaro and Franc’a Sanpho, a son named Vito who was baptized on September 23, 1579.
Although there is no documentation to confirm Francisca is ancestor Leonarda’s mother, to this researcher, it seems very plausible that she is. It is not known when Francisca died, so this is all that is known about them. |
